Which Class of AIMA Membership is right for you?

Membership Categories

  • Active -instructional media personnel who are directly engaged
    in education in Alabama and who are interested in furthering the
    purposes and objectives of AIMA.  Members are entitled to vote,
    hold office, serve on committees, and receive any publications
    prepared or contracted for by this organization.
  • Associate -persons interested in school media services
    (professionals). Members are entitled to rights and privileges of
    active members, but may not vote or hold office.
  • Corporate -available for institutions, organizations,
    governmental agencies, and business firms.
  • Full-Time Students -for those enrolled in library media
    programs in colleges and universities in Alabama.
  • Honorary - may be extended to selected persons upon the
    recommendation of the Board of Directors.
  • Retired -these members are entitled to all the rights and
    privileges of active members, except that of holding office.

Committee Descriptions

  • Auditing - responsible for working with the treasurer to do an
    annual audit of AIMA’s financial records
  • Awards - responsible for publicizing AIMA award opportunities,  
    for accepting nominations for the awards, for selecting the
    award recipients, and for presenting the awards at the annual
    summer conference
  • Districts - responsible for encouraging media specialists in
    various districts where there is no leadership to form an active
    affiliate group to serve the area and to encourage the active
    districts
  • Intellectual Freedom - responsible for encouraging the freedom
    to read through the news-letter and any other way when a book
    is challenged in an Alabama school library
  • Legislative - responsible for leading Alabama’s school
    librarians in planning, supporting, and encouraging legislative
    organization and action to all levels - national, state, and local
  • Membership - responsible for encouraging membership in
    AIMA, for the collection and compilation of membership forms as
    new members join, and for publishing a directory every two
    years to distribute to the members
  • Newsletter - responsible for collecting material for the
    newsletter, for having the newsletter published, and for its
    distribution. The president will appoint the editor.
  • Nominating- appointed by the president and responsible for
    soliciting qualified candidates for all available positions in AIMA,
    determining a  slate of candidates by the required deadline, and
    working with the AIMA board to publicize candidates and to
    handle the voting process at the annual summer conference
  • Parliamentary - responsible for assuring that Roberts Rules of
    Order are followed at all meetings of AIMA
  • Publicity -responsible for helping with the newsletter’s contents
    and for publicizing any activity sponsored by AIMA.  
  • Scholarship -responsible for the publicity of available
    scholarships, for gathering applications for the scholarships
    and for determining the award(s)
Membership
The membership year is
October 1 to September 30.
 Membership is processed daily.  If
you have not joined, please do so.  
AIMA is only as strong as its
members.  With 1,200 LMS in
Alabama, AIMA is your only voice
for school librarians in the state that
is an affiliate of both the Alabama
Education Association and the
American Association of School
Librarians.  You are encouraged to
join these two powerful
organizations as well.
